Hi there! My name is Brittany, and I am a math and science tutor with experience tutoring students of all ages, from K-12 through college and adult. Hi there! My name is Brittany, and I am a math and science tutor with experience tutoring students of all ages, from K-12 through college and adult. In addition to my Bachelor's in Cell & Molecular Biology, I also have a minor in Psychology. I have been tutoring formally since 2022, however my love and enthusiasm for educating spans more than a decade and goes back to high school/college, when I would often help tutor peers in various math and science courses. Since recently returning to tutoring in a more professional capacity, I have had the joy of working with students online in many subjects including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, SAT Math, Chemistry, and Biology. My favorite part about being a tutor are those golden "a-ha" moments and being able to empower students and see their skills and confidence grow. In addition, as a lifelong learner myself, I am always searching for new things to discover and am passionate about inspiring that same love of learning in all of my students.

My approach to tutoring is centered around the specific needs, goals, and learning styles of each student. I recognize that every student has unique skills and challenges when it comes to learning, and my mission is to be adaptive to these differences and create a space that is encouraging and supportive of all students. Beyond this, one of my central beliefs is that learning is best achieved when we understand the “whys” of a topic and not just the “whats." I enjoy being able to break down what are often difficult or complex topics and dig further into the details to help students gain a deeper understanding and thus build stronger learning foundations.

I am always looking forward to working with new students of all ages & backgrounds. No matter what your learning goals are, I am here to help you reach them. If you have any questions or think we'd be a good fit, feel free to contact me and I will be glad to assist you!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Throughout my years of tutoring I have worked with several neurodivergent students, including those who are autistic and/or have ADHD. I have received training on different learning methods and tools for these differences as well as others including dyslexia, dyscalculia, executive function difficulties, and auditory and visual processing disorders. My teaching methods for these students, like all students, involves individualizing lessons to their specific strengths and challenges. Depending on the student and their needs, this may look like incorporating frequent breaks, special interests, hands-on activities, or anything else that will help foster student learning and engagement. When it comes to student needs, I believe self-advocacy is a powerful tool, and I am passionate about teaching students to advocate for their own needs in the learning environment. I am dedicated to upholding any communication, sensory, or other accommodations students may require, while remaining aware of the fact that these needs are fluid and may fluctuate on a daily, hourly, or minute-by-minute basis. I do not interfere with self-regulation behaviors, unless there is the potential for harm. I am both trauma-informed and intersectionality-informed. As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I love working with other neurodivergent folks, and I am very passionate about creating safe spaces where students can feel supported, happy, and comfortable as they learn.
Genetics

Genetics

Genetics is my main area of academic interest and expertise, and it is also my favorite area of science to teach. My degree involved a significant focus on genetics, which allowed me to develop a background in this subject through courses such as General Genetics and Human Genetics, as well as other closely-related courses including Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Metabolism, Molecular Biology of the Cell, Cancer Biology, and Virology. When I was in college, I also gained an interest in clinical genetics, and more specifically genetic counseling, and had the opportunity to shadow genetic counselors to learn more about this field. I have tutored many students in genetics. I especially enjoy working with students in the areas of classical and molecular genetics - anything from Punnett squares and pedigrees, to DNA replication and gene expression. I am thrilled by the complexity of genetics, and as a tutor, I love being able to help students discover new connections and gain clarity on these difficult topics as we work together to break them down.
