Hello, I am Ms Karen,
My mathematics teaching/tutoring and educator experience ranges from grade 6 through early college. I have a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education, and I am Florida Department of Education grades 6-12 Educator Certified. Mathematics learning is a building process. There are specific mathematic skill/content areas that students should master to better ensure success in higher mathematics learning. I look forward to maximizing YOUR mathematic strengths and minimizing YOUR mathematic weaknesses.
I pride myself with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with students respectfully. I listen with understanding, empathy, and patience. I especially love witnessing that magic AHA moment when students suddenly experience the understanding of a very challenging concept or skill. I do my best to motivate students, encourage them to work to their potential, and praise their hard work and progress often. I stress the importance of good study habits, practice, and more practice.
Mathematics education is my passion. My experience of 10+ years has been as a mathematics instructor/tutor, including drop-out prevention and at-risk students, online curriculum facilitator, and videoconference facilitator. My instructor/tutor experience includes middle school, high school, and early college-level mathematic courses. Additionally, I served as a liaison between students, parents, school guidance counselors, and teachers for a Broward County, Florida online school.
I love to share my excitement and enthusiasm of mathematics with my students and watch as they begin to experience this excitement for themselves. If YOU work at it, practice it, reinforce it, and keep challenging yourself, YOU will experience the excitement and wonders of Mathematics too!
