About Niko

Bio

I'm Niko, and I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education grades K-6. I graduated summa cum laude in my high school class and was a part of the National Honors Society. I have worked with students in all grades PK-12, with most of my experience in lower elementary school.

Music has always been a major part of my life. I am a pianist and organist and have been playing almost my whole life. I studied piano and organ from a Juilliard-trained musician and have many years of experience teaching piano...

Music has always been a major part of my life. I am a pianist and organist and have been playing almost my whole life. I studied piano and organ from a Juilliard-trained musician and have many years of experience teaching piano lessons to people of all ages. Additionally, I have a passion for music theory and music history, and I am proud to have scored a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam. I have many years of experience tutoring students in both AP Music Theory and other music theory courses, and all my students passed their exams with flying colors! I also have experience tutoring music history and composition students at high school and college levels. In addition to my experience as a music tutor, I also have experience working with elementary students, tutoring mostly ELA, writing, phonics, and social studies.

My goal is to make all my tutoring sessions fun, engaging, and enjoyable for the student. I use various teaching methods and am sensitive to the different learning modes such as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc. Furthermore, I have experience in developing personalized learning pathways for all my students so their unique needs are at the forefront of all my tutoring sessions. I am very passionate about the subjects I teach, so I might get very excited and animated when I teach (maybe it's a musician thing!), and I am patient and always willing to answer as many questions you have during the sessions.

I have been playing the piano and organ almost my whole life. I have many years of experience teaching piano and music lessons to students of all ages, and experience working with composition students. Along with teaching piano, I also include elements of music theory and composition in my lessons. I have composed and arranged sacred and secular music for choir, piano, and organ. My music has been featured at several music conferences. I have tutored students at the high school and collegiate levels in music composition for many years.

Ear Training

One of the elements of music theory that I teach in all my piano classes is ear training, which is identifying the type and quality of an interval or chord without looking at the music or piano - just your ears. This invaluable skill is important to build when learning the piano, as it can help the learner with improvisation and sight reading. I have taught this skill in all my piano classes and did advanced ear training in AP Music Theory. I also have experience working with students in AP and college theory classes on ear training/sight singing.

Best piano teacher I have ever had in my life.

Niko is not only an amazing teacher but an amazing pianist. He truly inspired, stunned, and surpassed my expectations during the lesson. His immense experience in music is apparent even during small examples of how piano progressions work. Niko is truly a unique teacher; I would have missed out on sooo much if I had not had him. He truly has something that none of my other piano teachers held. Niko is the best choice I have ever made.

knowledgeable and patient tutor

Niko listened to me and reinforced what I already had learned. Went over the pieces that I needed to perform an harmonic analysis on and pointed out several non-chord tones that I didn't realize where there.

Knowledge and fun to work with

Very Informative Tutor

Excellent teacher!
