I joined the Wyzant educators platform in 2022 to share my knowledge, experience and success in teaching, editing, writing and publishing.

I have a Bachelor's degree in History from Rutgers University. I also earned a Master's degree in Government and Public Policy from Duke University. I tutored in writing, ESL and Chemistry while at Rutgers, and I taught Political Science and Academic Writing classes at Duke. I tutored in writing, ESL and Chemistry while at Rutgers, and I taught Political Science and Academic Writing classes at Duke. I also worked as an editor and researcher at the Islamic and Arabian Studies Center at Duke. There, I coached academic writers, organized colloquia and edited journal articles and books for Middle Eastern students and professors. I’m an expert test-prep coach. I scored in the 99th percentile in both the SAT and GRE exams, and I have proven success in helping others improve their scores in a range of professional and academic standardized tests, including the IELTS, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, The Certified Financial Planner exam and the Florida Real Estate Licensing Exam.

I'm an award-winning writer, journalist, editor and writing coach. I have honed my craft on staff at newspapers and magazines, and as Chief Communications Officer for a 38,000-member social-service organization. My writing work has been carried by The New York Times, Associated Press, Scripps Howard and Agence Presse France.

I have more than 35 years in corporate communications, producing magazines, books, training materials and professional-development courses.

Current teaching/tutoring: Until 2022, I taught English as a Foreign Language to Chinese students through EF-English First. I have taught more than 4,500 classes and my class schedule was always fully booked. In the corporate setting, I also have prepared students to take their international English exams, including IELTS, in which I hold teacher certification. In addition, I am a certified Business English instructor.

I can teach you the subtle differences between the ACT Reading test and other standardized tests. You will become familiar with the thinking behind the ACT reading exam, and will be able to anticipate and fully grasp the questions.
