Beverly J. B. received her B.A. degree in English and her M.A. degree in Folklore from the University of California at Berkeley. Beverly J. B. received her B.A. degree in English and her M.A. degree in Folklore from the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her Ph.D. in Folklore & Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania. This scholar-teacher is the author of Chinese and Chinese American Ancestor Veneration in the Catholic Church, 635 A.D. to the Present (Edwin Mellen Press, 2010) as well as of numerous folklore-related articles. As former Associate Professor of English (2010-2019), Chair of the English Department (2012-2018) and Director of one of the top U.S. Embassy Beijing-funded American Cultural Centers (2011-2015) at the New York Institute of Technology, Nanjing, she has rich experience teaching a great variety of writing about multicultural and interdisciplinary literature, folklore, and history courses especially.
Dr. B. is the recipient of several teaching recognition awards: NYIT President’s Award for Student Engagement by Faculty in Global Education Finalist; NYIT Presidential Award in Student Engagement in Cross-Disciplinary Activities, Nominated; Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, University of North Florida, Nominated; The Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, University of Pennsylvania, Awarded; two Chimicles Teaching of Writing Across the University Fellowships, University of Pennsylvania, Awarded. This long-time friend of China, who holds a TEFL-TESOL Certificate, now lives in Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida where she is working on a book about American folk art and remotely teaching local and international students. She greatly enjoys working with individuals of varying ages online where, she finds, she can develop a close mentor-student relationship with ease and joy.
