Examples of student progress with my tutoring help include students being promoted to the next grade level by increasing their fluency skills and vocabulary skills. I believe in helping students use their interests to fuel their motivation to increase their literacy skills. One of my students, a middle-schooler, was very reluctant to enter a Literacy Fair. His teacher was encouraging all her students to participate. The student had read "Lord of the Rings". I asked him to tell me the story. I then suggested that he do a diorama of a couple of scenes. The student liked creating artwork. He decided to do a clay sculpture of the dragon, a main character in the story. He entered the Literacy Fair with his sculpture and received an "A" for his creative efforts. He was very proud of his accomplishments.
I have always enjoyed English class. I like to use correct grammar and have a wide vocabulary. I have written and presented speeches for school events and my own seminars. I also have used the students' interests to fuel their motivation to read and write.
My first love is Acting. I studied Acting, Musical Theater and Cold Reading Technique in Hollywood, Ca. and Scene Study with an award-winning director in Los Angeles. I have acted in numerous community theater productions, most recently in The Sound of Music and Ellis Island....the Dream of America.
