Hello! My name is Gianna. I am a graduate student at the University of Central Florida pursuing a MA in Counselor Education on the Clinical Mental Health track, with the goal of one day becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I also have experience as a Mental Health Technician at a residential facility primarily working with adolescents. I have also earned a B.S. in Clinical Psychology and a minor in Health Services Administration with a 3.55 GPA at UCF. For my Associates, earned at Broward College, I graduated with an overall GPA of 3.74, on the Presidents List, and in top 1% of my class. I have a passion for teaching and hope to one day pursue it as a career at the university level.

I have many hours of tutoring experience where most of my students need help with homework assignments, writing/proofreading papers, and exam test prep. I like to focus on improving overall writing and grammar skills. This helps my students understand what they are reading, answer free response questions more effectively, and it improves the quality of the writing. I aim to teach what it means to break down a question to understand exactly what it is asking the student to provide in its answer so that the student can recognize these types of situations more effectively on their own without additional assistance. The goal of tutoring is for students to not to need my services but to empower them to trust in their own processes, how to develop healthier study habits, and prepare them well enough for the tougher assignments.

I have experience in MLA and APA formatted papers and citations. I also have a plethora of resources I can offer that have helped me over the years as a student.

Looking forward to working with you!

ADHD

ADHD

I have tutored many students over the years with varying cognitive learning disabilities. I understand the frustration school work can cause, the procrastination that occurs when a student does not find the material interesting, or how hard it can be to stay on task. I try to get to know each student to see what works for them. I identify how to make each topic interesting enough to hold attention to stay on task, relate concepts to real life, and use colors to help with memorization. I also try to make assignments feel like a conversation because I find students will recall information easier when they engage in the thought processes, rather than being lectured to. My goal is to get them thinking for themselves, and understand how to navigate assignments in a way they can enjoy/at least tolerate so they have the tools to do it on their own. My experience in this includes my time as a mental health technician (currently employed) at a behavioral hospital (A UHS facility) and my time tutoring on Wyzant. My experience as a mental health technician is primarily with adolescents diagnosed with various mood disorders like, ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, etc.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I am a graduate student from the University of Central Florida with over 10+ years of writing experience. When I was younger, I used to hope that one day I could become an author. I also used to be an avid reader, but as I have gotten older, my time seems to pull me elsewhere. I typically used to prefer YA romance novels as well as various poetry books. I currently use my passion for writing with my students. Over the years, I have worked with many students on various types of assignments most calling for short stories. I teach my students the basics of world building, identifying the type of story you want to tell, identifying the universal theme, identifying traits of an epic hero, as well as the stages of the hero's journey. I have helped my students write different stories ranging all the way from flying griffins, blacksmiths, and kings and queens to love stories, war heroes, assassins, and run away princesses. I have also worked with students to understand Shakespearean works, how to follow iambic pentameter, how to create effective foreshadowing, as well as how to implement dramatic irony. I love being creative, so if you are looking for someone to bounce ideas off of, or you just need assistance getting started overall, I am happy to help!

Homeschool

Every student has their own way of learning/studying. When I was younger I had difficulty focusing on school work as well as focusing on the words I was reading. I have learned what type of learning best suites me and I will do whatever I can to work with you and/or your child to find the best way for you/them to learn. Whether that be an auditory, visual, or hands on learning style; I will do my best to ensure you actually enjoy studying and learning :) Please note: I do recommend purchasing multi-colored or brightly colored (lined) flash cards. These are very helpful when studying.

I have taken many art classes in my academic career including drawing 1 and 2, photography, and college level 3D Design. In these courses we learned basic principles of proportion and practiced drawing human anatomy. 3D Design focused more on wire sculptures, Bristol paper scoring techniques for various sculptures, and pumpkin carving /sculpting. I was also previously certified (expired) in Adobe photoshop, Indesign, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and Flash (now called Animate). My preferred medium for painting is acrylic though I have used watercolor as well. I was in the national art honors society in high school and have had my art up for sale in my home towns local art festival. I was also employed at a large scale craft store for 6+ years where I gave recommendations on various art supplies. While my experience is not formal my experience is perfect for a beginner student looking to explore their creative side.
