Hello potential students! My name is Erin, and I'm excited that you're here. I graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) with a degree in economics and math in 2016. In this degree program, I always aimed to challenge myself, even taking multiple graduate courses in economics (up to the PhD level in microeconomics). I also managed to meet these challenges well, receiving awards from the economics department in both my junior and senior year. When I graduated, I was even given the Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar award for having the highest GPA in the College of Arts and Sciences at Alabama. Surprisingly, I wasn't even originally interested in math, and I definitely wouldn't have expected to succeed in this degree program when I was crying about how confusing factoring was in high school! After spending a year working in consulting, I then attended the University of Wisconsin and just graduated with a master's degree in economics. During that time, I have become more interested in education, and I am working towards becoming a fully certified secondary math teacher in the state of Florida!

Especially for topics like math, it is easy to get stuck in a "fixed" mindset - the idea that someone is just "not a math person" and therefore will never get it. As my experience shows, no matter how much trouble someone has with math, it is always possible to improve with practice! In my tutoring sessions, I always try to bring in my personal experience to encourage students who are feeling frustrated. Any student will know that a teacher's attitude has a huge impact on how the class goes, so I always aim to be approachable and enthusiastic! My general tutoring method relies on communication and interaction with students. I try to make sure the student is talking more than I am - while I present simple explanations and examples, the most important thing is that the student can complete the material independently! Of course, there is plenty of flexibility based on individual student needs.

Microeconomics

Microeconomics

I have studied economics for six years total, earning a BA and MS in the subject. During that time, I have done (formal and informal) tutoring and teaching in microeconomics for a variety of different students, from first-generation college freshmen to fellow graduate students. I was even the TA for a PhD-level microeconomics course at the University of Wisconsin. I bring deep subject knowledge, enthusiasm, and understanding to all of my sessions!
Statistics

Statistics

With an extensive academic background in statistics and econometrics (the fancy "economics" name for statistics), I have been tutoring and teaching statistics for over 4 years. I have created "crash course" lessons for lawyers with little interest in math, helped first-generation college students with introductory statistics, and talked through complicated cutting-edge techniques with graduate students! In all of these experiences, I bring enthusiasm and understanding to help everyone understand statistics.

She knows her stuff, and she can teach her stuff to someone who knows NOTHING!

I'm currently in a master's program and I requested Erin's help in my Microeconomics course which unfortunately, I could not retain any information I was taught. Erin helped me go through a study guide. We went through one question at a time, and Erin gave me a high-level explanation and phrased it in a way for my brain to comprehend. Mind you, I'm actually trying to make sure I understand this content fully as I see it's practical application in my professional work. I plan on requesting a MANY more tutoring sessions with Erin in the future. Don't hog her!

Thank you!

As someone with no Econ background, Erin was really good at explaining the basic but foundational concepts and principles I’m covering in macro right now and providing helpful tips on how to understand the material and study for my upcoming exam!

AMAZING!!!

She is very patient and will explain the problems in detail making sure you understand the topic! She'll let you try to figure out how to go about the problem first before jumping into explaing it, which i really appreciate. I have done pre-calc and calc work with her. I highly recommend:)
