Accent Reduction and English improvement -
I specialize in working with foreigners who speak English, but who want to overall improve their conversational ability and reduce their accent. As a professional actress who works behind the microphone doing voiceover work, I bring this expertise to my students to help them achieve the music of American English, hear and duplicate our timing and tempo, and put it all together so that no one will know WHERE you're from! I've worked with native Spanish, Portuguese, Saudi Arabian, Hungarian and Japanese speakers. Work with book, personalized cd's.
Beginning Spanish -
A native Orlandoan, I lived in Mexico City, Mexico for 20 years, speak Spanish fluently, and understand the challenges a foreigner faces when learning a new language. I believe that a good teacher/student bond is most important. Creative interaction and exercises help build trust, overcome shyness, and teach students to learn to talk like REAL people in the REAL world (instead of like a book), and make learning and speaking your new language fun! Learning a language is like acting...believe in yourself, relax, practice, and enjoy it, and you'll be speaking more like a native before you know it. Work with book and on-line interactive tools
Public Speaking -
Throughout the years, I've combined my private language tutoring with on-camera work as an actress in commercials and behind the microphone doing voice over. I am now available to teach public speaking and on-camera skills in private or group sessions. Includes: creative warm-ups, speech organization and structure, body language, projection, coherency, diction, eliminating bad habits, fear issues, improvs, cold reads, commercial and script reads to monologues, wardrobe, hair and personal presentation.
I was the official English voice for Mexico's Televisa Network's English language CBS affiliate "American Network" for 9 years, a member of Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Arts, and Actor's Equity Unions. Hi!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
This is tutoring or "coaching" for those who need to give a speech, talk before the PTA, sell a product or idea, accept an award, etc., but feel very uncomfortable while doing it. Our number one fear (over death) is yes.. public speaking. Classes focus on body language, vocal inflections, memorization, improvisation, projection skills and public image. As an Acting teacher as well as a professional Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA on-camera and voice-over artist, I guide the student through warm-up exercises to relax and get comfortable, have fun and just be yourself... while polishing your presentation until you appear as confident as you will come to feel. With the goal? That you WANT to give that speech!
This is designed for either non-native English speakers, or natives who have a desire to improve their reading skills. Comprehension and connection to WHAT you're reading is critical, so students even read commercial scripts, and practice reading aloud into a microphone, where they can play, have fun and relax with the material. Enunciation, projection and confidence while reading aloud is also improved. New and more complex vocabulary becomes introduced in a way that can also begin to show results in better writing skills and conversation. Built to be fun!
A basic beginner's Spanish course for middle school children to adults, we follow the Florida Student Edition of Holt Spanish 1 "Expresate" for students not seeking tutoring to improve on pre-existing school material; and pre-assigned material for students needing help to improve their performance in Spanish class. The focus is on building vocabulary while learning fundamental verb conjugations, with the goal of forming simple sentences and actually communicating in Spanish. Having learned Spanish through immersion by living and teaching English to Spanish speakers in Mexico and Costa Rica for almost 20 years, I believe that relaxation, support and confidence in one's first introduction to learning a foreign language is key.
This course is tailored to non-native English speakers and natives who feel they need improvement in their basic writing and spelling skills. Reading for comprehension and expression is also included, as it so often automatically improves the ability to write. The student learns to get a clear intent, form a coherent message and be grammatically correct! Designed to be creative and fun, students write commercials, press releases, stories or business memos.
