I hold a Master of Science in Management Information Systems with an Information Technology concentration and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bowie State University. My industry credentials include CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, Qualys Certified Specialist in vulnerability management, Change Management Associate, and Project Management Specialist certifications, and I am currently working toward CISSP. Beyond certifications, I have spent more than ten years in enterprise IT and cybersecurity, including five years as a Senior Security and Systems Engineer managing vulnerability programs, SIEM monitoring, and incident response, and four years as a Senior Systems Administrator supporting security operations for a large college.
My teaching experience spans more than three years as an adjunct instructor of cybersecurity and networking for university bootcamp programs delivered in partnership with NYU, NJIT, the University of Michigan, the University of Kansas, Independence University, and the University of Central Florida. My students were primarily adult learners and career changers, ranging from their early twenties to their fifties. Instruction was fully online in a live classroom setting, where I led lectures, hands-on labs, and group exercises covering SOC operations, SIEM tools, network fundamentals, and Windows and Linux administration. I also worked with students one on one during office hours to review lab work, prepare for certification exams, and work through difficult concepts.
My tutoring approach starts from wherever the student is and builds toward their specific goal, whether that is passing Security+ or CySA+, completing a course, or landing an IT role. I emphasize hands-on practice over memorization, break complex topics into small steps, and draw on real examples from my security operations career to make abstract concepts concrete. I adapt pace and depth to each student, and I bring patience, structure, and practical insight to every session.
