I am a certified K-12 science classroom teacher who taught in the elementary, middle, and high school classrooms for 11 years. I also taught biology at the college level as an adjunct and assistant biology professor for over 8 years. I have a Ph.D in science and worked as a scientist and researcher for more than 13 years. Throughout my college and K-12 careers, I tutored students in groups and one-on-one in biology, earth science, environmental science, and, occasionally, physical science.
I understand that there are various styles of learning and I identify which style a student uses the most. Some students use a combination of styles and I tutor accordingly. I use Universal Design, Bloom's taxonomy, and Webb's Depth of Knowledge to prepare lessons in order to maximize a student's learning and mastery of the content. During the lesson, I use online resources in the form of video, illustrations, and text to assist students in understanding the topics with which they are struggling.
I am an educator at heart and I enjoy working with students that really want to learn. My goal for my students is for them to feel that science is easy to learn and understand, to improve their grades, and to feel a sense of success and accomplishment in learning content they felt was a challenge.
