Meet Ebony – Award-Winning School Counselor, SEL Educator, and Student Wellness Advocate
Hi, I'm Ebony! I'm a passionate and award-winning professional school counselor with a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) in Professional School Counseling and over 6 years of counseling experience, plus 14 years in social services and case management. I was honored as Elementary School Counselor of the Year for the 2022–2023 school year, a recognition that reflects my dedication to promoting student well-being and academic success.

I specialize in teaching social emotional learning (SEL) skills to elementary students. Many children struggle with making friends, managing big emotions, or bouncing back from challenges. In my classroom, students learn to identify their feelings, practice empathy, build emotional regulation strategies, and understand the mental and physical signs of stress and anxiety. I believe that when students understand themselves better, they thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

As a committed advocate for whole-child education, I’ve successfully secured grant funding for new playground equipment, ensuring safe and engaging play spaces for all students. I also launched a school-based therapy dog program—a dream brought to life with the support of our school community. Finn, our mini Goldendoodle therapy dog, has become a beloved part of our school and provides comfort, connection, and joy to students and staff alike.

A few fun facts about me: I’m a huge LEGO® enthusiast, and I love spending time with my two dogs, Lincoln (a Boxer) and Finn. My love for animals began in childhood during difficult times, and today, they continue to inspire my work in mental health and emotional development.
My mission is to help kids build confidence, emotional awareness, and practical skills to care for themselves—mentally, physically, and emotionally. I’m excited to partner with families and schools to create inclusive, supportive learning environments where every child can shine.
