My passion for foreign language began when I started learning French in the 4th grade. I added German in the 8th grade. I continued with both through high school and 4 years at the University of Rochester, NY with a double major of German and French. I spent my Junior Year Abroad in Strasbourg, France on the border to Germany. There I attended the University of Strasbourg a full year while living with a middle-aged French teacher. The experience dramatically increased my fluency.
I graduated the University of Rochester Cum Laude with a BA in German Language and a BA in French Language. At graduation I was the only student in the School of Arts & Sciences to receive the coveted Fulbright Scholarship. This award granted me a full year of study at the University of Cologne, Germany.
After I moved to Florida, I became a certified teacher in 2003 teaching both German and French at Lake Brantley High School for 6 years, followed by 6 years at Seminole High School. During those years, to further the students experience of French and German culture, I organized and led trips every summer to Europe for my students and their family members.
I have since retired early and have been a freelance language tutor for the past 9 years for levels A1 through B2. I additionally mark (grade) college English papers, correcting errors in structure, grammar, syntax, etc. Most importantly, my students have expressed their love for my teaching style, my passion for languages, and my ability to break down everything at a level to where the student can immediately grasp it with complete understanding, all the while ensuring that the student is having FUN in the process!
