Hello! My name is Ashley, and I am a professional newspaper editor looking to help other aspiring writers hone their craft. I am currently the head news editor of The Sanford Herald, a newspaper based in Sanford, Florida, and I have extensive experience in the journalism field. Before this position, I have worked as the Metro Desk Editor for the Independent Florida Alligator, an editor for The Fine Print Magazine, and I have been a reporter for those publications as well as WUFT and The Florida Basement. My absolute favorite part of my job is working with aspiring writers and helping them learn and grow. In addition, my experience within the literary field is fairly extensive and diverse. For my undergraduate studies, I graduated from the University of Florida with two degrees: a B.A. in English with a concentration in film and a B.S. in Journalism with a concentration in investigative journalism. I am a published poet and aspiring novelist. I worked as a journalist professionally for several years and my work has appeared in five different publications. My research has appeared in two different academic symposiums. I have also worked as a bookseller and I am a literary podcaster, so I am very involved in the literary field.

The most rewarding parts of my career have been working as an editor and tutoring my fellow writers. My professional work as an editor involved leading groups of writers, being on-call 24/7 to help them when needed, and teaching them to fine-tune their craft. I take a similar approach to tutoring. My goal is not to do my pupils’ work for them. It is to guide them along the way, but to ultimately give them the tools and confidence they need to succeed on their own even outside of our lessons.

Cello

Cello

I started playing cello when I was 12 years old and I have continued ever since. Although the majority of my musical expertise is focused on the violin, I became fascinated with the cello when I was in middle school and I decided to teach myself. Over the years, I have received more professional training, but that passion that drew me to cello in the first place and got me to stubbornly decide to teach myself has stuck with me through the years as well.
Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I have been a musician since I was 9 years old, starting with violin and eventually adding cello, guitar, and bass guitar. During my 17 years of musical study, I have also studied music theory and composition at length. While I was still in high school, I attended an extracurricular weekend course to supplement my knowledge from my schooling. I have written several original compositions for a full orchestra, including one that was selected for performance by Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony (during which I was also the featured solo violinist) when I was only 16 years old.
Violin

Violin

I am an experienced violinist with prior study under private tutors, extensive knowledge of music theory and composition, performance accolades, and experience in multiple orchestral settings. In my youth, I was a member of the Winter Park Philharmonic Orchestra member (2013 - 2016), Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony member (2012 - 2016), as well as an All County Orchestra member (Orange County). During this time, I also earned multiple superior ratings (both solos & ensembles) at District MPA Competition. I have studied privately with multiple professional coaches and have tutored novice violinists myself, passing along the knowledge that I have acquired over the years.
