Hello! My name is John. I am pursuing a MS at the University of Central Florida's FIEA Program for Game Design, with the goal of telling stories through imaginative worlds in the video game industry. I am passionate, driven, creative, and adept at problem-solving techniques. I have also earned a BA in Game and Interactive Media Design with a 3.66 GPA at UCF where I achieved Dean's list throughout all four years. I was also awarded the Gold Pegasus and Black and Gold scholarships. In high school, I attended an accelerated magnet school where most of my classes were considered college credit courses, allowing me to start my bachelor's at UCF right after graduation. I have years of experience in Photoshop, Unity, Unreal Engine, Autodesk Maya, and previously certified in AutoCAD. I also have tangential understanding of programming logic.

For my recent qualifications, I achieved a 308 out of 340 on the GRE and scored in the highest bracket on the scale of the writing portion with a score of 6. I am proficient in Algebra 1 and 2, and various other math subjects. I am a native English and Spanish speaker and experienced in tutoring and Spanish translation.

I have experience in MLA and APA formatted papers and citations. I also have an abundance of resources to offer that have assisted me as a student.

My goal as a tutor is to set my students up for their long-term success. I help them learn best practices and processes for understanding complex concepts. I work with them on their level to build comprehension skills and how to recognize patterns to make assignments easier and less intimidating to tackle. Breaking a seemingly complex problem down to the key words can uncover the simplicity of many assignments and is an important aspect to my approach. It allows students to build confidence, know they can trust their judgement, and grow until they don’t need guidance anymore.

Looking forward to working with you and helping promote your future success!

Autodesk Maya

Autodesk Maya

I have worked in both the role of level design and 3D game-ready asset modeler across several projects. The relevance of level design in this instance, is that we use in-engine designer-friendly modeling tools that have similar but slightly more streamlined workflows as those found in Autodesk Maya. I can say this fact because of my experience as a 3D modeler, in which I've modeled hard surface assets like a sword, a wooden mask from a video game, a robot, and I've also modeled characters. These characters were a police officer and a zombie, both of which were modeled, rigged, and animated within Maya.
Computer Gaming

Computer Gaming

I have worked as a game and level designer on 10 gaming projects that range over a variety of genres. These genres include platformer, horror, dungeon crawler, puzzle, adventure, and more. I have worked with a variety of art styles, both between 2D, pixelated, and 3D depending on what visual aesthetic suited the needs of the games. I have extensive experience with lighting, whiteboxing, setdressing, implementation of mechanics, scene setup, gameplay flow and more between both Unity and Unreal Engine 5.
