Bio

I have taught high school social sciences for over 25 years, specializing in AP Human Geography, AP World History: Modern, AP European History, AP U.S. History, and AP U.S. Government & Politics. I have also taught many regular and honors courses and I enjoy working with all students and all levels.
Since 2005, I have worked with the College Board at the AP Human Geography (APHG) Reading - scoring Free Response Questions (FRQs), and I have been an Assistant to the Chief Reader since 2022...

I have taught high school social sciences for over 25 years, specializing in AP Human Geography, AP World History: Modern, AP European History, AP U.S. History, and AP U.S. Government & Politics. I have also taught many regular and honors courses and I enjoy working with all students and all levels.
Since 2005, I have worked with the College Board at the AP Human Geography (APHG) Reading - scoring Free Response Questions (FRQs), and I have been an Assistant to the Chief Reader since 2022 (highest leadership position for a non-professor). I have written multiple-choice and free-response questions for the APHG Exam since 2016, I have written for the AMSCO Review Book for APHG, contributed to the BFW textbook for APHG, and I have produced over 200 videos on Human Geography and World History on YouTube.
Reaching and motivating students is a passion and a gift of mine and I have a good sense of humor, however, I am a professional with high standards for all my students. I am a content expert and especially adept at improving students' critical thinking, writing, and organizational skills. Anyone I work with is encouraged to take ownership of their own learning and is advised on how to better organize themselves so they can become more self-sufficient. I earned a BA in History from SUNY Potsdam (1996) and an M.Ed. in Education (2014). For most of my years as a classroom teacher, I taught U.S. History at either the Regular, Honors, or AP level. I am an avid reader of American History and Biographies, and I have tutored students in U.S. history for over 15 years. History writing can be challenging, especially for the AP course, yet I have a methodical and scaffolded approach that makes it easy to follow and really speaks to students.

Ever since graduating with a BA in History, I have been an avid reader of World History, and I have closely followed European-centric current events since the 1980s.
