I first fell in love with history when I went to my school's book fair. My eyes fell upon one about Henry VIII, that much-married king. I immediately wondered, “Who was this man, to be able to flout nearly every rule imaginable, and yet still rule over a whole kingdom?" Little did I know that it would spark a lifelong fascination with the past.
In addition to achieving a 1550/1600 on the SAT, I attained a 5 on all but one of the nine AP exams I took. These included AP World History, English Language, US History, English Literature, and European History. I was a volunteer tutor at my high school for two years, helping middle schoolers with their Spanish homework and teaching them grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. Last summer, I worked for Huntington Learning Center in tutoring high school students one-on-one in preparation for the Reading and Writing section of the SAT. As I broke down its constituent parts and taught them strategies on how to tackle them, I always checked that they grasped both the content of the section and its day-to-day applicability. I also gave them practice questions as a diagnostic tool to determine their weak areas, giving them detailed feedback that explained not only why their answers were wrong, but why the correct answer was right.
After high school, I studied at the University of Oxford, where I graduated with a 2:1 BA in History. I am currently studying for a Master's in Early Modern History at the University of Cambridge, and I will return to Oxford for my doctorate in History this fall. I have thus experienced the educational rigors of two of the world's best universities.
Not only will I craft lessons individually for each student, but I will also help them master the notoriously tricky format of AP history and English exams. I am available for tutoring in all areas of History, English Language, and English Literature. I hope to not just help your child succeed in their classes, but also come away with an interest in, if not a passion for, history.
