Hello, my name is Darren. I graduated magna cum laude from DeVry University with a degree in Technical Management, specializing in accounting. I also earned two master’s degrees from Keller Graduate School of Management: an MBA in Accounting and a Master of Accounting and Financial Management. In addition, I have more than 20 years of experience as a mortgage document auditor, where I trained employees to review mortgage documents using math and Excel and provided basic Excel instruction to coworkers. I also volunteered in classrooms while my mother worked as a teacher’s aide, assisting students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
I previously tutored a coworker in Algebra I who struggled with variables such as X + Y = Z. To make the concept easier to understand, I related it to something familiar from her daily life—feeding her horses. I reframed the problem as X × Y = Z, where X represented the number of horses and Z represented the amount of hay used in a week. Once she understood that relationship, I showed her how to solve for the missing value. Then we returned to the original equation and applied the same logic, demonstrating that algebra is often part of everyday decision-making, even when we do not realize it.
My goal is to help students build understanding and confidence through clear, practical instruction. If you have questions or would like to schedule a lesson, please feel free to contact me. I would be glad to help.
