Hello! I am Audra. I hold a Texas teacher certification to teach middle school math and science. In 2006, I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in middle grades education (4-8 grade math and science). I have always loved learning and have appreciated instructors who have been able to make learning fun, relevant, and connected to real world phenomena. I believe that education opens doors that improve quality of life for people as well as teaching higher level critical thinking skills that positively impact every area of life. These passionate beliefs are the reason I chose to become a teacher.
I have twenty years of teaching experience. I have been in the classroom setting for fifteen years. I taught 6th grade science & math for three years before transitioning to a more flexible schedule of substitute teaching in K-12th grade. I also have ten years of math and science tutoring experience. I have tutored 4th-12th grade students in elementary math, middle school math, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, physics, and chemistry. I also led a college chemistry workshop while in college.
I delight in helping students discover the connections between various mathematical concepts and seeing their self-confidence grow as they develop the problem solving skills that will translate to all areas of their lives. My tutoring approach centers around helping students with their current math problems while discovering any knowledge gaps. I highlight mathematical and real-world connections and use critical thinking dialogue with my students to understand the "how" and "why" of each problem.
I look forward to helping you grow in your mathematical skills and confidence. I am available for online tutoring most afternoons and evenings.
