I'm a certified educator with a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, a Reading Specialist certification, and nine years of experience teaching and then serving as a school librarian and media specialist with upper elementary students in grades 3 through 5. I was named Teacher of the Year and have spent my career helping students not just learn to read, but actually want to.
My strongest areas are reading fluency, comprehension strategy, phonics and decoding, writing mechanics, and ELA skills for students in grades 2 through 8. I approach every student as an individual — my first session is always diagnostic, focused on figuring out exactly where the gap is and why it exists, before we work on anything else. From there, sessions are structured but conversational: a quick warm-up, targeted skill work, and a check at the end so both the student and parent always know what we accomplished and what comes next.
I've worked with students across the full range — from accelerated readers to those who've struggled for years and just needed a different approach. I also have experience supporting students with learning accommodations, having managed 504 plans for dozens of students. I ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations. If you think we might be a good fit, send me a message — I'm happy to answer questions or schedule a quick intro call before our first session.
