Hi, I am Chanel. I have over a decade of experience in education, serving as both a classroom teacher and the former head of a private, non-profit school. I not only teach students across grades K–12, but also design early childhood curriculum, coach teachers, and build programs that help students with diverse needs thrive. My educational background and leadership experience provide me with a unique lens through which to understand how to break down complex skills into clear, achievable steps, while also creating an environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and grow.
Over the years, I’ve tutored and taught children from preschool through high school, both one-on-one and in classroom settings. My tutoring approach blends both structure and flexibility. I use scaffolding, visual organizers, and step-by-step methods for subjects like reading comprehension, essay writing, and math foundations, while also tailoring each lesson to the student’s learning style. I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD, and I incorporate strategies such as task chunking, brain breaks, and clear progress markers to keep learning focused but not overwhelming.
Because I’ve worked across so many levels and roles, I’m able to tutor effectively in multiple areas. In literacy, I specialize in phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. In math, I focus on elementary foundations, pre-algebra, and algebra readiness, helping students not just “get the answer” but understand the process. Beyond academics, I teach study skills and executive function strategies that help students stay organized, manage time, and build confidence. My goal is to give each student tools they can use independently, while encouraging their unique strengths.
