I have taught Language Arts, (9-11th grades), AP and IB English, and First Year College Composition) for more than a dozen years in Florida and in New England at elite colleges and universities in the Northeast Brown, MIT, UMass). have worked with students to increase their scores on the ACT and SAT by teaching them tips and techniques to master both tests. Furthermore, on Wyzant I have been working with students on their essays for their English classes and helping IB students with their extended essays, oral presentations, and homework assignments. I am trained as an AP Language and Composition and an IB teacher. My undergraduate degree is in Language Arts, my Master's degree is in American Studies and my Ph.D. is in Folklore and the Teaching of Writing.
I'm a published author and experienced technical writer and my editorial skills help students with writing, including college application essays. I work mindfully with each student, discovering their strengths and challenges, and helping them succeed.
I usually work online which works out well, especially with students' schedules. Plus, I get to meet students from all over the United States.
Yes, I am a grammarian but I won't shame you if you have lots of grammar errors!

During the week, I take ukulele lessons and strum with a local ukulele group. I also got a Westie puppy last June, and I spend time training him at a local dog club.

I have been approved by Wyzant to work with students for the ACT test. I also work with IB students, AP and Capstone students and those in English Honors classes. I also taught college classes for many years that include lessons related to the test. After all, the test’s purpose is to see if a student can handle college level work.

I have a master’s degree in American Studies and a minor in American Studies for my doctorate. I love reading American history and I love helping students with assignments such as explaining DBQs.
Anthropology

I have taught Anthropology 101 and 102 for several years at a state college in Massachusetts. I have a doctorate in Folklore from Indiana University, a top university for this subject. I also have many years in fieldwork, including photo and audio documentation. I have worked as a consultant to the Smithsonian, the American Folklife Center, and many other agencies as a folklorist-ethnographer. These fields, folklore, and ethnography use the same research tools as the anthropologist.
