About Dr. Roger

I have a Doctor of Philosophy in Modeling and Simulation, a Master of Science in Systems Management (MBA for technical organizations), and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. In addition to years of tutoring experience I am also a cognitive scientist, a human knowledge theoretician, and have taught at the community college level.

Adding to my knowledge, teaching experience, and fun-loving nature, we will have a unique resource to help us "work smart." Other tutors and students must use intuition to make instructional and learning decisions about how best to teach and how best to learn. However, because of bias, lack of knowledge, or unwillingness to adapt, these intuitive decisions may or may not be optimal for the learning situation you are in. We, on the other hand, will have the benefit of possibly the world's first online, quantitative, scientifically-based instructional and learning design decision support system which I have developed over many years of research. Although the technology may well be commonplace in tomorrow's classrooms, it is revolutionary today. It has the ability to zero in on powerful strategies which have proven to work and recommend optimal instructional strategies for the teacher and optimal learning strategies for the student, in real time. As the situation changes, the recommendations change, resulting in much more productive student-teacher interactions - more bang for your buck. An experiment using this tool's core technology resulted in a 21 percent improvement in instructional effectiveness and a 50 percent improvement in efficiency. Furthermore, the more it is used, the smarter it will get. More importantly, the more recommended learning strategies you learn and use, the better learner you will become - a very important lifelong skill in a constantly changing, competitive world. For the moment, this tool will be available only to my students, and if you become my student you will receive a free one-year subscription to the decision support tool once the product is offered to the public.

As we grow together, I will have four goals for you: (1) you will become a better learner; (2) you will learn the subject matter well - with great clarity; (3) you will test well, and; (4) you will have fun doing 1-3. Result: you will become short-term smarter and long-term wiser - a better, more competent, more complex human being, ready to grow individually and make great contributions to society.

Bottom line: For very rational reasons I was ranked the #1 tutor from more than 800 WyzAnt tutors in the Central Florida area for two years in a row, and have been ranked as high as #2 nationally. I very much look forward to meeting you, developing a positive long-term relationship, and helping you become more successful.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have earned a Master of Science in Systems Management which is essentially an MBA for managing technical organizations. I also have extensive real-world experience from startups to multinational corporations. I can help you understand how business works.

Proofreading

Being a published author, I have helped others and I can help you write a much better paper.

Study Skills

Having earned a Ph.D., I consider myself to be a great learner. I don't know everything, but there's not much I can't learn. Leveraging this interest and expertise in learning, I have developed a unique online system which recommends optimal learning strategies to you, the learner, in real time. As the situation changes, the recommendations change. As it gets smarter, the recommendations get better. There are currently more than 80 learning strategies in the system, and I hope you will learn them all - what they are, how to use them, and when to use them. Developing this ability to learn will give you a great lifelong skill in an increasingly dynamic and competitive world.

TEAS

My many years as a successful student in the TEAS subject areas (culminating in a Ph.D.), my knowledge of optimal instructional and learning strategies, and the proper patient and encouraging attitude toward your emotional needs qualify me to tutor you on the TEAS test. We'll have great fun learning the TEAS subject matter and useful how-to-learn skills. I have helped nearly 30 different people successfully prepare for the TEAS over the past 3 years. For example, one recent student went from failing twice to passing and was very happy.
