I’m Patricia, a Mom and an Engineer who loves math and kids. I have a Master’s degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering and I am the mother of two college students. My expertise ranges from basic math all the way up to college-level calculus and statistics. I specialize in elementary math (place value, absolute value, properties of operations, decimals, fractions, plane figures); pre-algebra (scientific notation, percentages, exponents, square and cube roots, variables, coordinate plane); geometry (shapes, angles, pythagorean theorem, perimeter, area, volume, transformations); and algebra (functions, equations, inequalities, systems of equations, ratios, quadratics, polynomials, slope, factor, data modeling, probability). Children of ages 8 to 15 years old are my strongest suit. I believe that every child, teen, or young adult is unique and everyone has their own different learning pace and style. Therefore, each one needs a different teaching approach. It is extremely important to go step by step – to practice and clear all doubts before moving on to the next topic.
As a Mom, I know for a fact that kids can learn anything when they are taught with patience and empathy. I know from tutoring experience that math can be very easy to understand and appreciate when someone explains the logic behind all those numbers and rules. Math is like everything in life: if you comprehend the reasons behind the rules, then you can effortlessly follow them. This is why my motto has always been patience, empathy, and practice.
