I have been helping students of all abilities learn how to succeed since 1998. My experience teaching and developing college writing and literature courses, tutoring in a university writing center, helping found another and serving for over a decade as director of an after-school non-profit learning lab providing academic support in all subjects for high school students has enabled me to develop a variety of programs, strategies, courses and workshops designed to help students from all walks of life succeed. With special expertise in writing, literature, language and the humanities, I understand that the best learning results from patient coaching and clear instruction rather than judgmental criticism.
As an academic coach, my goal is to develop independent learners. I help students understand how to approach projects and assignments so that their success with one challenge can lead to success with new tasks. My students learn to understand clearly what assignments are asking them to do and to organize their notes, classroom materials and study strategies to anticipate exactly what will be on the test. I love to see my students develop confidence and build a set of tools they can use in school, on the job and in life.
