Hello! My name is Garrett and I'm a math teacher and tutor. I specialize in online learning, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to help others understand mathematics through the digital format on Wyzant's platform. I have a wealth of experience teaching common high school and college subjects including Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. At the bottom of this free response I have listed my accolades and accomplishments for those interested, but I want to first explain how I can (and can’t) help you!

My focus during math lessons is on student understanding of the key concepts/ideas, and on pushing students to use the key ideas to solve problems. I do this by identifying student weaknesses and filling in any gaps in their understanding. Then I give the student an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned with a new but related problem. I have found that this method of tutoring is highly effective for ALL students who buy into the process, including students from various mathematical backgrounds. It is my expectation that my students actively participate and take ownership of their learning.

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. I have a teaching experience over 10+ years at University of Miami. I also tutored people in the analogous course--Transition to Higher Mathematics--at the University of Miami as a graduate student. This is one of my favorite subjects to teach and tutor.
