Hello, I'm Aixa! I'm a professional artist and adjunct professor of studio art with an MFA in Painting from Laguna College of Art and Design. I also hold a BFA in Painting from the School of Plastic Arts and Design in Puerto Rico. I studied classical drawing and painting techniques in an atelier at the same time I was getting my BFA. I have four years of experience as an adjunct professor at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, where I teach Drawing 1, Figure Drawing, Art Appreciation and 2D Design. I not only teach the different artistic techniques students need to help improve their drawings. I also provide feedback and constructive criticism, mentoring students through their learning journey as artists.
My goal as a teacher is to help students achieve their own goals when it comes to their art. I feel a sense of achievement as a teacher when I have helped a student reach understanding on a concept after much trial and error. When the student reaches that “ah-ha!” moment, and they have made the connection between theory and practice, that’s when I know that I have truly helped them to grow and succeed.
I use a combination of presentations and demos in addition to drawing/painting from the model/still life to show students the possibilities they have available for their own art making. It's all about passing on artistic knowledge to students so they can grow not only as individuals, but as artists. Developing their skills in problem solving and critical thinking, and in turn enriching their own internal world and expressing their own personal vision as artists.
I structure my lesson plans to cater to the needs of the student: from the basic elements of representational art like light logic to more advanced stages such as oil painting. I'm also knowledgeable in drawing and painting the figure, artistic anatomy and color theory.
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to see examples of my work, have any further questions, or if you'd like to schedule a lesson!
