Hi, I'm Carlos, a practicing attorney admitted in Florida (Bar # 1075119) and California, after passing both bar exams on my first attempt. On the July 2025 Florida Bar Exam, I earned a 169 scaled MBE and a 159 scaled Florida Part A. I'm fluent in English and Spanish - working with first-time takers, repeat examinees, and foreign-trained attorneys (especially LLMs from Spanish-speaking countries).

My primary focus is bar prep. I help with MBE subjects, multiple-choice strategy, essays, performance tests, Florida and California state-specific material, and UBE (MBE/MEE) prep by building study schedules, diagnosing weaknesses, sharpening issue spotting, and developing a consistent approach to bar-style questions.

I earned my J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in Biology from the University of Florida. I'm a former high school Biology and Anatomy & Physiology teacher with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and I previously tutored LSAT prep plus college-level Chemistry, Biology, and Algebra here on Wyzant. I scored a 176 on the LSAT.

Whether learning or teaching, I believe understanding a topic's fundamentals is the key to mastering it. Just as you can't argue a fact pattern without first knowing the black-letter rule, a solid grasp of the basics is what makes the hard questions click. Once I gauge how firm your foundation is, we can build from the ground up, refine your problem-solving process, or take a student-specific approach.

We all love that "A-HA" moment after staring at a problem for what feels like hours, and I'd be honored to help you get there.

Please note: given the time since I taught STEM and changes to the LSAT, I currently tutor only for the Bar Exam (UBE: MBE/MEE/PT, Florida and California), Law School (legal writing and exam prep), college-level Political Science, and Law School & College Admissions Counseling.

Certifications: Florida High School Biology (License 1429298, inactive) and TESOL.

College Counseling

College Counseling

Law

Law

As a Northwestern Pritzker School of Law graduate and attorney admitted in Florida and California, I tutor students in legal writing, law school exam preparation, and core legal analysis skills. I help students develop clear IRAC/CRAC structure, stronger outlines and attack outlines, sharper issue spotting, and more organized essay responses. I can assist with doctrinal courses, legal research and writing, and bar-style essay practice by focusing on how to apply rules to facts in a structured, exam-ready way. My goal is to make legal analysis feel less abstract and help students write like lawyers with clarity, confidence, and precision.

Awesome tutor!

Carlos help tutors me for college chemistry, which is one of my weakness! He goes over everything my professor does but in my pace. I am a bit slower when it comes to calculations because I like to see and know how I get all of the answers. Carlos takes his time understanding my level of chemistry and breaks it down so I am able to understand the details. My biggest problem is having to solve problems and knowing which stoichiometry to use and he gives me tips on how to understand which formula to use. His knowledge for chemistry is obviously much higher than mine and he goes above and beyond to find out how to solve a problem for chemistry. Carlos even went over my lab problems for me and I was so happy that I was able to go into my chemistry lab and know all of the materials! So far I have been understanding college level chemistry much better now than when I first started and I am able to understand my professors! Carlos is still continuing to tutor me over this semester and I am very happy that he is able to help. Thank you, Carlos! See you in the next session!

Great teacher, patient and knowledgeable

Carlos helped me out a lot with my biology homework. He had flexible scheduling and excellent grammar. He explains everything in detail and is a natural teacher. Would definitely recommend.
