I honestly believe that I can help anyone understand mathematics by demystifying it, leaving no questions unanswered and no concepts misunderstood from the most basic level of "what is a number?" I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and am currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Miami (Florida). I have taught college courses at Notre Dame and at Miami, and I taught Discrete Mathematics and College Algebra through the Westville Education Initiative at Holy Cross College (at the Westville Correctional Facility).

At Miami I have taught Intermediate Algebra, Algebra for College Students, Finite Math, Precalculus I and II, Calculus with Foundations, Calculus I and II, and Linear Algebra. At Notre Dame I taught Principles of Calculus and Calculus for the Life and Social Sciences, and I assisted Calculus I, Calculus III, and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. I am also an AP Calculus Reader. Outside of my university teaching I have tutored Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, and graduate-level mathematics as well as the usual high school and undergraduate courses.

What qualifies me to tutor mathematics, outside of my expert knowledge of the field and its history, are my natural abilities to both communicate effectively with students of all ages and to share my passion for the ideas of mathematics (most people have never met somebody who likes math as much as I, or so they tell me).

So please, let me share with you the secret world of mathematics and open your eyes to the eternal truth and beauty of the patterns we discover!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and am a mathematics professor at the University of Miami. I have taught Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Precalculus I and II, Finite Math, and Calculus at Miami, which is most of what shows up on ACT Math. I honestly believe I can help anyone understand this material by demystifying it and leaving no questions unanswered. We can review the content you are missing and then practice timed sets so pacing stops costing points. If you have a practice score report, bring it and we will focus on the sections that need the most work.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics and am a professor of mathematics at a university. At the University of Miami I have taught Intermediate Algebra and Algebra for College Students, and I taught College Algebra for the Westville Education Initiative at Holy Cross College. Algebra 1 is the kind of course I teach for a living: equations, inequalities, graphing, systems, and turning word problems into math. I honestly believe I can help anyone understand this material by demystifying it from the most basic level, leaving no questions unanswered. I communicate well with students of all ages and I am patient with teens who struggle. Bring your homework or quiz and we will work through it until the ideas make sense.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics and am a professor of mathematics at a university. At the University of Miami I have taught Algebra for College Students, Precalculus I, and Precalculus II, so Algebra 2 sits right in the middle of what I teach. We can work on quadratics, polynomials, rational expressions, exponentials, logarithms, and the function ideas that show up before precalculus. My approach is to demystify each idea and leave no concepts misunderstood. If you tell me what your class is covering this week, we will practice those problem types until they feel familiar.
Calculus

Calculus

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Miami. I have taught Calculus with Foundations, Calculus I, and Calculus II at Miami (including terms as course coordinator), and I am an AP Calculus Reader. At Notre Dame I taught Principles of Calculus and Calculus for the Life and Social Sciences, and I assisted Calculus I and Calculus III. I have taught precalculus and calculus as a university professor for years. I have also tutored Real Analysis and graduate-level math, which helps when calculus students want to see why the theorems work and not only how to compute. Limits, derivatives, integrals, and the exam habits that go with them are material I teach for a living. Bring your homework or a past quiz and we will clear up the parts that keep tripping you up.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have a Ph.D. in mathematics and am currently employed as a mathematics professor at a university. I have taught Discrete Mathematics at the University of Miami. I have taught several courses above and below this course as well. It is in my wheel house.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

My understanding of linear algebra comes from taking the course at Florida International University as well as 6 other abstract algebra courses above linear algebra. I would say that I know this subject in and out. Things in Linear Algebra: Fields, Vector Spaces, Matrices, Determinants, Linear Transformations, Basis, Linear independence, direct sum, inner product, orthogonality, and much more.
Logic

Logic

My understanding of Logic comes from taking Mathematical Logic at Florida International University. The course was very deep and theoretical, beginning with predicate calculus and ending with Godel's completeness and incompleteness theorems. I understand this subject very well.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have taught algebra, precalculus, and calculus as a university professor for 4 years. At the University of Miami I have taught Intermediate Algebra and Algebra for College Students, which sit right above Prealgebra. I honestly believe I can help anyone understand mathematics by demystifying it from the most basic level of "what is a number?" Fractions, ratios, percents, and early equations are where we start, and we go slowly enough that the next algebra class does not fall apart. I work well with younger students and I am patient when math has been frustrating.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have taught precalculus and calculus classes as a university professor for 4 years. At the University of Miami I have taught Precalculus I and Precalculus II, and I also teach in the calculus sequence. Precalculus is where we get functions, trigonometry, exponentials, and algebra fluency in shape for Calculus I. My approach is to demystify each definition and leave no concepts misunderstood. If you are heading into AP Calculus or college Calc I, send me what your class is covering and we will practice those problem types.

Knowledgeable tutor for a difficult subject

My son has had some online lessons with Eric, for real analysis, he is a great teacher and very reliable, I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing tutoring in advanced college math.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Eric established a nice rapport with my 14 year-old daughter, who struggles with math. He was very patient and let her try to explain how she would solve the problem, then kindly explained why that didn’t work, I wish her teacher at school was this good!

Vivian, 10 lessons with Eric

Great experience

Eric is very passionate about math and has a lot experience teaching math.

Tara, 26 lessons with Eric

Knowledgeable and patient.

I needed a tutor for my son in Calculus as he transitioned from high school to college. Eric was an amazing resource with a very flexible schedule. His expertise in mathematics was evident, but his ability to teach what he knew helped my son do very well in the class. I would highly recommend Eric. He's a gem!

Math Tutor with Style

Very knowledgeable Math Tutor, you will even learn some history about Math while he teaches! The session flew by, and I learned quite a bit, would recommend to others.
