Bio

I am a computer graphics teacher and creative professional with over 17 years experience in the field. I hold an MFA degree in Photography and Digital Imaging, I also hold a valid Florida teaching certificate in Art K-12. I have been a teacher at New World School of the Arts, Miami International University of Art and Design, Miami Dade College, Design and Architecture Senior High School and Miami Arts Charter, all of which are highly regarded South Florida art and design schools. I am a computer graphics teacher and creative professional with over 17 years experience in the field. I hold an MFA degree in Photography and Digital Imaging, I also hold a valid Florida teaching certificate in Art K-12. I have been a teacher at New World School of the Arts, Miami International University of Art and Design, Miami Dade College, Design and Architecture Senior High School and Miami Arts Charter, all of which are highly regarded South Florida art and design schools. I've taught varied courses such as animation, photography, web design, video art and editing, motion graphics, DVD portfolio creation, graphic design, and many others.

My knowledge of Adobe and Apple software is extensive from the basics to the advanced, from Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and After Effects to the Apple products, iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, DVD studio pro, and Final Cut Pro. I teach using project based goals so that students can create something tangible as opposed to just learning the interface and features of a particular software package.

I teach to individual strengths by assigning projects that are specific to the student's life experiences. This approach allows the student to create a project that reflects their interests and background. I find that this approach results in better quality projects that incorporates the life experiences of each student, which helps to ensure that the student stays interested and engaged through the completion of the project. I have numerous examples of student work to show in support of my approach which I will be happy to share with any prospective student.

I have over ten years' experience in the desktop publishing field. I have the knowledge to prepare hi-resolution images for inclusion into page layout programs such as InDesign. I can also set up style sheets for formatting text from body copy to headlines, and after setting up master pages defining where text and images boxes appear on the page, flow the text into the document.

Having received a master's degree in photography and digital imaging, I have extensive knowledge in shooting digital photos and editing those photos within Photoshop. As a tutor, I can teach you to do everything from basic image manipulation to color correcting, compositing, extracting subjects from backgrounds, manipulating and moving layers, creating text layers, adding effects, cropping and resizing and outputting to various formats, including web ready graphics and also off-set print ready photographs.

I've taught After Effects and Storyboard Pro at Miami Dade College for the past 8 years. I will guide you through the many aspects of the animation process; from learning how to draw storyboard panels and sequencing those panels creating "flip book" style animations, to creating 2D cut-out animated puppets in After Effects. The importance of maintaining engaging story driven content through enhanced scenes and dynamic camera moves cannot be understated and can be created by incorporating virtual camera rigs for camera moves that exhibit parallax (depth) effects. Dramatic lighting and shading effects can also be added, along with dialog and sound effects. The final result will then have the cinematic effect of the illusion of motion.

I have over ten years experience in the desktop publishing field. I have the knowledge to prepare hi-resolution images for inclusion into page layout programs such as In-design. I can also set-up style sheets for formatting text from body copy to headlines, and after setting up master pages defining where text and images boxes appear on the page, flow the text into the document. Text flow around irregular graphics can be defined and adjusted. After which Images/graphics can placed into picture boxes and tweaked to satisfaction. As a whole, the finished layout can contain a multitude of elements positioned on the page and layered in ways that can allow graphic elements with text on top, tag lines for the images, pull quotes, headlines, and initial caps. The use of color in text and graphics (including gradients) is straightforward. Upon creating the digital version of the document, it can be saved and uploaded to the printer for proofing, and subsequently printed on a offset printer in various quantities.

I have a BFA in art and have had extensive experience drawing both still life and live models. My drawing classes consist of topics covered in a basic drawing class; drawing from observation, practicing gesture drawing techniques to master weight, balance, and proportion. Once we achieve satisfactory results, we, will then practice filling and shading of the forms to create the illusion of light falling upon a three-dimensional object. I will also cover how to create a successful composition by the precise placement of objects according to proximity, scale and contrast.

I've been teaching film making as a Narrative Storytelling class at Miami-Dade College for the past five years. In addition to creating characters that the viewer associates themselves with and that evokes empathy; we also cover concepts that create a compelling narrative structure are outlined in Freytag's pyramid; things like exposition, character development, inciting incident, building suspense, and complication which lead to the main conflict. We also cover the environment (setting) and properly setting up the camera shots that helps tell the story and heightens the mood for dramatic effect.

I've been using the Macintosh exclusively since 1987, and am well versed in Mac OS X as well as the iWork and iLife software suites. I can help set up your mail accounts and iChat sessions as well. I am also familiar with the Time Machine back up system and also importing from a camera or a scanner. I can help set up a printer to give you the ability to output to a printer. All told, I have over 20 years experience working with the Macintosh computer.

I hold a Master's Degree of Fine Art in Photography and Digital Imaging from the Maryland Institute College of Art. I have 15 years' experience of shooting photographs from 35mm slide film to multi-megapixel digital cameras. I have taught several photography classes at the high school and college level. I have an extensive photography portfolio (both personal and student) to show my expertise. I understand how to get the most out of the camera for different situations whether indoor studio lighting, or fast moving subject matter or outdoor low light situations. I am also masterful at the editing/manipulating the photo within Photoshop.

Having obtained a Master's in Photography and Digital Imaging, I have extensive experience in videography—-I have used both photo and video cameras for the last 15 years and did my master's thesis as a two channel video piece. I also have plenty of student projects to show upon request. Currently I'm a professional trainer at Ingenium for Final Cut Pro X.

I've been teaching web design using Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Imageready since 2005 at both high school and college level. Within these classes the students learned a multitude of skills based on different web projects. These projects ranged from simple blogs to photographic portfolios. Some of the features of these projects are linking multiple pages, simple animations, rollover buttons, frame sets, and CSS to control page layout features.
