I scored a 519 on the MCAT and earned my B.S. in Computational Neuroscience from Carnegie Mellon University. After graduating, I spent three years conducting neuroscience research at the National Institutes of Health, where my work resulted in a first-author publication. I am currently pursuing an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Miami and conducting research in structural biology. This background has given me extensive experience with biology, biochemistry, experimental design, statistics, data interpretation, and the type of scientific reasoning that appears throughout the MCAT.
I also bring two years of teaching and mentorship experience as an EMS Lieutenant at a volunteer fire department, where I help train new recruits and EMTs. Teaching in EMS has taught me how to break complicated material into manageable pieces, identify where someone's understanding is breaking down, and adjust my explanation rather than simply repeating the same information. I bring that same approach to MCAT tutoring. When a student misses a question, I want to determine whether the problem was a content gap, passage interpretation, experimental reasoning, or test-taking strategy and then work on the underlying issue.
Sessions are tailored to each student's stage of preparation. We can review practice exams, work through passages together, target weak content areas, or develop a study plan around a test date and goal score. My science background is particularly useful for Biology/Biochemistry and Chemistry/Physics, including experimental passages, graphs, and data interpretation. My goal is for students to leave each session not only understanding the questions we covered, but better equipped to approach similar problems independently.
