I hold a BA in History with a minor in Political Science from UCLA, along with an MBA from the University of Miami. History has been a genuine passion of mine since college, and I have spent years continuing to read and study it well beyond my formal education.
While this is my first time tutoring formally through a platform, I have extensive real-world teaching and mentoring experience. For four years, I served as a Big Brother mentor in Los Angeles, working one-on-one with a young person on both academics and life skills. Separately, for nearly two decades, I have led and trained teams of employees in a fast-paced media production environment, where a large part of my role has involved breaking down complex concepts clearly and patiently so that people at every experience level could understand and apply them. That combination of one-on-one mentoring and professional teaching-by-necessity is the foundation of how I approach tutoring: I focus on breaking big ideas into clear building blocks, connecting historical events to things students already care about, and prioritizing genuine understanding over memorization.
I am comfortable working with middle school and high school students on US History, World History, Social Studies, Political Science, and Government, and I tailor my approach based on whether a student needs help catching up, building confidence, or preparing for a specific exam or essay. I am also bilingual in English and Spanish, which allows me to explain concepts in whichever language helps a student understand best.

Approved Subjects

ACT Reading

ACT Reading

For nearly 20 years, I’ve built a career around clear communication, argument analysis, and distilling complex information — the exact skills tested on the ACT Reading section. I focus specifically on helping students identify an author’s argument, understand passage structure, and answer questions efficiently under time pressure. My approach breaks reading comprehension down into a repeatable process, rather than relying on guesswork, so students build a strategy they can rely on across any passage. I’m patient and encouraging, especially with students who feel like reading comprehension tests are more about speed than understanding.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

I minored in Political Science at UCLA alongside my History degree, with a focus on American government, political theory, and comparative systems. For nearly 20 years, I’ve operated within complex organizational structures involving negotiation, compliance, and decision-making — giving me practical, real-world context for abstract concepts like federalism, checks and balances, and policy-making. I make a point of connecting historical and theoretical frameworks to situations students already understand, whether from the news or their own communities. My goal is always genuine understanding of how power and governance actually work, not just memorized definitions.
Political Science

Political Science

My Political Science coursework at UCLA covered political theory, comparative government, and international relations, complementing my History degree. I bring an executive’s practical understanding of organizations, negotiation, and decision-making to abstract political concepts, helping students see how theory plays out in real institutions. I focus on connecting major thinkers and systems of government to broader historical context, so students understand not just what a concept is, but why it developed the way it did. My teaching style is patient and conversational, built around genuine curiosity rather than rote memorization.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I hold a BA in History from UCLA, where close reading and argument analysis were central to my coursework. Over 20 years in executive leadership, I’ve relied daily on strong reading comprehension — distilling dense reports, contracts, and communications quickly and accurately. I also spent four years as a Big Brother mentor, working one-on-one with a student to build reading and study skills. I bring patience, real-world experience explaining complex ideas simply, and a genuine investment in helping students think critically about what they read.
Social Studies

Social Studies

My BA in History from UCLA, combined with a Political Science minor, gives me a strong foundation across the full range of Social Studies topics — history, government, geography, and civics. For nearly two decades, I’ve led and trained teams professionally, developing a genuine skill for breaking down complex, interconnected topics into clear, understandable pieces. I focus on helping students see how history, government, and geography all connect to form a fuller picture of the world, rather than treating each subject in isolation. My approach is patient and encouraging, aimed at building real understanding and confidence.
Spanish

Spanish

I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish, having used both languages professionally for nearly 20 years in a bicultural media environment. I can teach concepts in whichever language helps a student understand best, which is especially valuable for bilingual households or students building confidence moving between the two languages. My focus is on practical, real-world Spanish — conversation, comprehension, and everyday usage — rather than purely academic grammar drills. I bring patience and genuine enthusiasm to helping students feel comfortable actually using the language, not just studying it.
United States History

United States History

I hold a BA in History from UCLA, with a focus that included in-depth study of U.S. history from the colonial era through the modern day. For nearly two decades, I have led and trained teams in a professional setting, developing a strong ability to break down complex historical events and cause-and-effect relationships into clear, understandable lessons. I also spent four years as a Big Brother mentor, working one-on-one with a student on academic material, which shaped my patient, individualized approach to teaching. I focus on helping students see the connections between historical events rather than memorizing isolated facts, which builds both stronger retention and genuine interest in the subject.
World History

World History

I studied World History extensively as part of my BA in History at UCLA, with particular interest in how civilizations, trade, and major world events connect across regions and eras. I focus on helping students see the throughlines between different cultures and time periods, rather than treating each unit as an isolated set of facts to memorize. My nearly 20 years of professional experience working across English and Spanish-speaking markets also gives me a genuine appreciation for cross-cultural perspective, which I bring into how I teach global history. My approach is patient, conversational, and focused on making connections that make the material stick.
