I'm a current Neural Engineering M.S. student with a 4.0 at the University of Miami, and obtained a B.S. in Physiology & Neurobiology and B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut. I have experience tutoring undergraduate, high school, and middle school students in topics ranging from general math and science, test prep for ACT/SAT, as well as upper level courses in neurobiology and physiology. I have five years of tutoring experience and have worked primarily in one on one and small group (2-5) teaching environments.
My tutoring style seeks to reinforce a student's understanding of core concepts, ensuring that each layer of additional information covered is learned and contextualized, not just memorized. By emphasizing a strong foundation, I work to build up student confidence to tackle more difficult topics as we work through them. I firmly believe that an effective tutor can finish their lessons with the student teaching the topic back to them, and I often employ this strategy. Learning IS fun and my teaching style creates an environment where students can apply their lesson takeaways beyond each session. Though I'm not the largest proponent of the flipped classroom approach, I will recommend different available resources for students supplementary to our lessons. These resources are used to reinforce what we've covered in our lesson and for students to try and apply the strategies we've covered on subsequent topics. I want to maximize the ground we can cover, and with such great tools available online, we can effectively do just that!
