Hello! I'm Andrew and I am currently an assistant professor at FIU. I teach large organic chemistry (180 students) courses there, and absolutely love it. I really enjoy connecting with students and getting them to those "a-ha" moments! I received a bachelor's degree in 2013 and a PhD in organic chemistry in 2018. I served as a teaching assistant for a total of 4 years in graduate school, taught one semester as an adjunct professor, and Spring 2026 was my first semester as an Assistant...
I served as a teaching assistant for a total of 4 years in graduate school, taught one semester as an adjunct professor, and Spring 2026 was my first semester as an Assistant Professor. I will cover whatever material you need at whatever pace we need to do it.
I have a style where I always try to "get to the point", and break things down exactly how you will need in order to perform well on exams - no lengthy lectures or over-complicated mechanisms, we will get right to work. Organic chemistry is a uniquely challenging subject because everybody needs to learn it a little differently. From my experience, I have noticed that each student has a unique set of concepts that intuitively click with them, and some that they really need to work on. I will coach you how to think through things that look very complex on the surface, and train you to overcome those moments of sheer panic when you see an exam question that does not look familiar.
I will constantly be developing new exercises, specifically geared towards areas that you find challenging. After a few sessions you will have a personalized study guide for whatever material is most important for you, focused on the concepts that are the most challenging for you. Developing these materials is a big reason why I am working as a tutor. For both online and in-person sessions, the focus will be on interactivity. Instead of simply solving problems in front of you, I will be guiding you through how to solve them, learning your thought process, and coaching you on how to think through the material independently. Learning this stuff is just like exercise, so I will be your personal trainer and help you get the reps in - let's get to work!
