Hi there! My name is Tommy, and I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, a second major in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a minor in History. After my undergraduate journey, I received a Master of Arts in Linguistics from Florida Atlantic University. There, I worked for two years as a Spanish instructor and, in total, I have spent eight years working as a tutor across a wide range of subjects. I have spent my life learning, and I would like to share my knowledge with you!
I believe that encouragement goes a long way, as well as being challenged. I understand that some subjects are more challenging than others, and that it is indeed possible to break them down. I like to use examples for every subject I tutor, especially for abstract and complex subjects. The frustration of not understanding a topic is only temporary until it starts becoming clear! Humor is important to me as well—it makes the whole process of learning a new subject much more exciting. The most rewarding aspect of working with students to me is witnessing your curiosity. I love to receive questions and ask them myself in return.
I have worked with students that have ADHD, dyslexia, and autism.
During my free time, I enjoy reading novels and writing poetry. I also enjoy playing tennis and pickleball, but the relentless Floridian heat makes this a bit difficult sometimes.
