I am Maria and I have been a Registered Nurse for 21+ years. I have a bachelor’s in science from the University of Miami in Microbiology with a minor in Spanish. After which I went back to school and received my associates in nursing from Miami Dade College. I also have a master’s degree in nursing from Barry University with a specialty as Family Nurse Practitioner. Three and half years ago I transitioned into Academia, teaching both ADN and BSN students at West Coast University. I find teaching to be very fulfilling and seeing students succeed and build their confidence both in the classroom and in practice is very rewarding. My goal is to merge real life experiences with didactic information to make it tangible for the student to understand and learn. After 17 years in direct patient care I have vast examples to provide to further help understand concepts and their application.
The classes I specialize in are Nursing Fundamentals, Med-Surg, Pediatrics, and community health. I hold a certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner. Currently I hold tutoring sessions for my students in small groups where I provide further explanations, practice questions, guided notes to help bridge the information to ways that can be remembered, understood, and applied in the way the NCLEX is formatted. I have vast experience in formulating NGN items for the new 2023 NCSBN test plan for the NCLEX.
Every learner is different, and therefore requires the tutor to be able to adapt to the differences in learning styles and formats to maximize the student potential. I am open to suggestions and willing to formulate individualized learning plans to fit all different kinds of students. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions and to schedule a session to help you be as successful as possible in passing your nursing classes and ultimately the NCLEX!
