Professional Traditional and Special Educator and tutor

I am an experienced traditional and special educator with more than 15 years expreience teaching in public schools, and almost two years in online tutoring. I have a masters in Education from Wilmington University and a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Delaware. I have a special interest and experience in working with students with non-traditional learning methods and non-traditional abilities. I have worked with a wide range of students, from average to those who may have severe disabilities.

I have had extensive experience and background in teaching phonics, reading and writing at the level of grades K-8. I have taught social studies and science at the same grade levels as well. As a tutor, I have worked with students from K-9.

My expertise enables me to reach students who have had learning challenges, and lack success and/or motivation. Working with students is a joy and a kind of calling, not a job. I have always said and truly believe that there are no poor learners, just learners who learn differently. I have taught literally hundreds of children to read, using a variety of phonics based instructional methods. I have taught social studies and science up to and including 8th grade. I have taught math, science, and social studies to many students from K-5th grades.

I think the essence of a child's ability to succeed in learning is to learn who they are, and bring the learning to them. Find ways for all students to have success and to achieve benchmarks, and most importantly of all, to create learners who enjoy learning, for this is a skill that will take them through the rest of their lives.
