My name is Alexander, I have a bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida. I have a strong passion for both math and science and I enjoy helping others to better understand these topics. I work with my students step by step until they understand a topic and its relevant information. Math is best understood visually, therefore I explain math problems by graphing equations, using drawings, charts and shapes as often as possible. I strive to help my students overcome their anxiety with math and make progress in their math skills. I enjoy seeing my students become more comfortable and confident with doing math problems, so they can succeed in school and at their future careers.
Currently, I have two years of math tutoring experience at the high school and college levels. So far, I have tutored about thirty students over a semester or longer. I have successfully worked with students who were falling behind in math and needed extra help, and with students who wanted to get further ahead. I meet with my students one-on-one for online tutoring through Wyzant. I use a digital writing tablet and screen sharing to write words and math problems directly onto my computer for my students to see in real time. In addition to online tutoring, I also have experience teaching the SAT and ACT math sections at a local tutoring center.
My tutoring style involves helping students to see that math is not as difficult or abstract as it seems. I explain what all parts of math formulas and equations actually represent and how they fit together. I teach math with visual representations so my students can see how and why the math rules and formulas work the ways they do.
