Salutations! I am a certified, veteran teacher and published author with twenty years of experience tutoring and teaching students in grades K-12. I am familiar with the current curriculum as well as the virtual programs and apps essential to online learning.

As a “student whisperer”, I enjoy getting to know my students, relating to them, and guiding them in taking ownership of their learning. I am also the confident, energetic, and positive mother of three sons, and an avid reader (yes!...

As a “student whisperer”, I enjoy getting to know my students, relating to them, and guiding them in taking ownership of their learning. I am also the confident, energetic, and positive mother of three sons, and an avid reader (yes! graphic novels count!). I am reliable, patient, and creative with a finger on the pulse of what inspires kids to work hard and do their best. Fun facts: Owner of giant pens, tiny porcelain teacups, and a lovable xenophile with a fondness for all edible things from mochi to minestrone.

I am a Renaissance woman with two main areas of expertise: reading comprehension and coaching young and seasoned writers. I tailor my tutoring to the needs of each individual and their unique learning styles. I especially love working with reluctant and struggling readers (Read Alouds are so lovely!). My goal is not to necessarily get these individuals to love reading, but to cultivate a healthy relationship with it. I provide general homework assistance in all grades and at all levels. With a toolbox full of apps and software at my disposal, I'm the best when it comes to dissolving the screen.

In high school, I earned credit for Desktop Publishing. In addition, I was the Literary Editor of our newspaper. My job was to acquire poems, short stories, photographs, illustrations, and more for the newspaper's literary section. In college, I took more classes that helped me pave the way for creating books as well as mini newspapers as an elementary school teacher. Currently, I have published books, magazines, etc. for my classroom. I have also independently published a middle grade novel, "Moonstruck". :)

I have taught 2nd grade, 4th, 5th, as well as served as a K-5 ESOL teacher. I have also taught remedial reading (Read 180 and iReady) for grades 6-8. I am proficient in teaching students both virtually and face to face, simultaneously by using Canvas, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Nearpod, and so much more.

Microsoft Outlook

As a teacher, one of our primary means of contact is the use of Microsoft Outlook. We use it for contacting parents, peers, administrators, students, as well as other community members -- volunteers, guest speakers, etc. Outlook has a built-in calendar which makes scheduling so easy. :) I have also taught my middle school students how to use Outlook so they can stay current with all of their teachers.
