I've been teaching languages for 15+ years. During undergrad, I worked as an SAT, ESL, and Spanish tutor for Varsity Tutors before going out on my own. I've instructed countless students, both in the U.S. and abroad, who have struggled with grasping a foreign language. From EFL and German instruction at schools in southern Mexico to private Spanish lessons for adult learners in New York, I've truly worked with every kind of student!

Aside from my degrees in Spanish, Translation, and Applied Linguistics, I have authentic, long-term experience with the language. I started studying Spanish as a child, always with teachers who were native speakers. In college, I took linguistics courses in Madrid and eventually moved to the beautiful rural state of Chiapas, Mexico. I've been teaching in Mexico for 8+ years, and I'm very passionate about my work. There's nothing like learning a language from someone who lives where it's spoken and can tell you about the culture firsthand.

And Spanish is not the only foreign language I speak! I currently hold a B1-level certificate from the Goethe Institut, making me qualified to teach German, as well. In 2024, I proudly completed Easy German's Summer School Program, during which time I finished an intensive B2-level course at GLS (German Language School) in central Berlin. I still study German for fun every day and love to teach it as a hobby!

If you're interested in English writing or reading classes, I can assist you with that, as well. I've always prided myself on getting an 800 on the SAT Writing. Other than test scores, though, what speaks to my English skills is my long history of online articles. My informative pieces on writing, college admissions, and the SAT have been published on websites like U.S. News, Yahoo News, College Confidential, and more. Get in touch with me!

College Counseling

College Counseling

I have tutored around 10 different students in college application essay writing, as well as on how to use online search engines and printed books to find colleges that fit their needs. I have also written many different articles about college admissions, SAT and ACT scores, application essays, and tips for a successful semester. These articles have been published on U.S. News, Fast Web, College Confidential, and other websites designed for new college students.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I've subbed at public primary schools in the Huntington school district. At these grade levels, and especially in the kindergarten classes, handwriting is practiced on a daily basis. The students are given lined white boards, markers, and erasers to practice letters and words upon the teacher's dictation. I taught these type of classes about 3 times a week.
IELTS

IELTS

I have five years' professional experience teaching English as a second language to students in New York and Mexico. I have been tutoring one of my students specifically in IELTS prep for more than a year. My degrees in Spanish linguistics and translation have allowed me to pick up effective techniques for learning another language, and my experience as an educator has shown me the best techniques for teaching another language.
Regents

Regents

I am instructing my long-term student G. how to prepare for the Spanish regents next month. I have close familiarity with the Spanish and English Regents, thanks to my undergrad education classes and first-hand tutoring experience. The online availability of past Regents exams makes it a subject that is easy to learn about and provide authentic practice material to students.
Spanish

Spanish

Aside from my degrees in Spanish and translation, I have authentic, long-term experience with the language. I started studying Spanish at age 10, always with teachers who were native speakers. I spent a summer studying linguistics in Madrid and eventually moved to the rural state of Chiapas, Mexico, after my undergrad studies. There I lived on a small diary ranch, learning and using Spanish everyday to complete my tasks as an agricultural worker. I still use my Spanish frequently as a self-employed document translator.
Study Skills

Study Skills

My undergrad degree required coursework in Educational Psych. As an experienced teacher, I am aware of the different learning styles--visual, auditory, etc.--and how to recognize them in my students. A visual learner can benefit from drawing pictures and charts to prepare for a test; an auditory learner can benefit from reading notes aloud or having notes read to him/her.

Extremely Knowledgeable and Engaging Tutor

Tiffany was an amazing find to help my high school aged children with their Spanish fluency and literacy. First off, I found Tiffany through a selection process of quite a few different tutors. I had my kids take lessons from from a list of what I felt were top pics to see who they felt helped them best in several areas including fluency, literacy, knowledge and engagement. Tiffany excelled in all areas and was their pick (unanimously) for who they wanted to work with. Tiffany maintains close communication on scheduling, where the kids are at in their school work, what they are working on in their sessions and how things are going in general. She is always on time, prepared for her lessons, and super easy to work with. She has done a fantastic job breaking through my son's introverted shell as well which is no easy task. My son very much enjoyed one of his latest sessions specific to fire and emergency situations since he is interested in the Fireman career path. I have used Tiffany for a bunch of sessions thus far and absolutely plan to continue taking advantage of the value and enrichment she has to give. I am also looking forward to using Tiffany to help out with college application/essay reviews and have very high expectations based on my experience thus far. Great job Tiffany!

Excellent!

She was very helpful in preparing for the state test in New York. I don’t think I would’ve been ready without her careful attention. She went above and beyond expectations, preparing homework work for me to do in between sessions.

Amazing and Supportive Spanish Tutor

I've really enjoyed working with my Spanish tutor! She's patient, respectful, and always goes at my pace. She prioritizes what I want to do, focus on, and learn, which makes every session personalized. I love that she gives me choices and makes learning fun with activities. Professional, experienced, and dynamic!

I have taken a few different ESL lessons during my journey to become proficient in English, including a course at Columbia University. Thus, I got a chance to meet many teachers, but Tiffany is a special one. In my opinion, Tiffany's ability to connect with students is unique--she knows exactly what the student needs to achieve his/her goal. I like the structure of our lessons; the homework contains specific exercises that focus on improving my weaknesses. My current goal is to achieve a score of 100 on the TOEFL, and I feel I'm getting closer after every lesson with Tiffany and completing the homework she assigns, which is always customized and never overwhelming. In addition, Tiffany has a pleasant personality, a positive vibe, and a great sense of humor--all of these features make our lessons more enjoyable. If you are looking for someone who is professional, experienced, and dynamic--don't look anymore, she is right here! :)

Responsive and Organized

We hired Tiffany to help our daughter with SAT Reading. Tiffany was super responsive to messages and very organized with her scheduling. She never arrived late to a session and never cancelled or rescheduled a single session. Our daughter likes her a lot and enjoyed the sessions. Tiffany provided several useful tips on strategy for attacking both the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT.
