I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Molecular Biosciences, building on my undergraduate training in biological sciences. My academic and research background has given me extensive experience in biology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, and related coursework. My graduate research has focused on bacterial genetics and gene regulation, while my broader research experience includes molecular genetics, evolution and experimental biology. I have also presented my research at numerous scientific conferences, which has strengthened my ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to audiences with different levels of experience.

In addition to my research experience, I have direct teaching experience as a teaching assistant for two sections of introductory biology. In this role, I have worked with undergraduate students with varying levels of preparation, helping them understand foundational concepts in cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, and cellular physiology. My approach is to first identify where a student’s understanding breaks down and then explain the concept using simpler frameworks, examples, diagrams, and connections to concepts they already understand. I emphasize understanding mechanisms and reasoning rather than memorization, while adapting my approach to each student's needs.

My combination of advanced coursework, graduate-level research, and classroom teaching experience allows me to tutor biology and genetics from introductory through advanced undergraduate levels. I am particularly comfortable helping students with genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, and research-oriented biological sciences. Outside of the laboratory and the classroom I enjoy playing drums, hiking and spending time with family!

Biology

Biology

I am a graduate student in Molecular Biosciences with extensive experience in biology, genetics, molecular biology, and microbiology. As a teaching assistant for introductory biology, I have experience explaining complex concepts to undergraduate students at different levels. My research focuses on genetics, gene regulation, evolution and molecular biology, allowing me to connect foundational concepts to real-world research.
Genetics

Genetics

My genetics experience spans classical inheritance, Mendelian genetics, population genetics, genetic variation, and the molecular mechanisms underlying genotype and phenotype. Through graduate-level coursework and research, I have developed experience interpreting genetic data and applying genetic principles to experimental questions. I have also participated in clinical-based genetics internships with Johns Hopkins. I particularly enjoy helping students work through genetics problems step-by-step and develop an intuitive understanding of how alleles, chromosomes, and genetic interactions shape biological outcomes.
Microbiology

Microbiology

My microbiology experience is primarily focused on bacterial pathogenesis, with hands-on work studying Staphylococcus aureus and its regulation of virulence. My laboratory work includes bacterial culture, genetic strain construction, gene expression analysis (promoter activity assays), hemolysis, protease activity, etc. I can help students connect core microbiology concepts such as bacterial physiology, virulence, genetics, and host–microbe interactions to experimental research and design.
