During my years of teaching, I would offer before or after school tutoring time to my students that needed extra help. I spent time creating tailored lessons and activities that would be of the most benefit to them. Every student learns and absorbs lessons and information differently and I try to meet those needs. I do make a point to really get to know a child so I can understand what they need but I also value input from parents and guardians to help me come up with ideas to boost their success more.
Math has always been one of my stronger subjects to teach. I understand that with math, not all children are able to use the same strategies. I ensure that they are provided with as many strategies as they can use to solve problems that works for them. I also love using manipulatives, objects to help visualize math problems.
Science is such a fun subject to teach. I make lessons exciting and come to life when possible. I love using hands on activities and explorations to learn different topics in science. I also find science a great subject to cross teach reading and writing with.
Reading and writing are the two subjects that I spent the most of my time tutoring students in. Students come in at all different levels and they learn how to read and write at different paces.
