I am an AAPC certified coding instructor and have been teaching coding with Polk State College, Hillsborough Community College, and Everest University for the past 15 years. I have taught adult students (age range 20's to 60's). I have taught both on campus and online. I have also taught single moms to help them gain a great career in coding. I tutor privately as well. My passion is to help others pass their Coding Certification Exams, help them with resumes and interviewing skills. I teach effective studying skills, and help the students learn a strong foundation in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS, coding guidelines, modifiers, and code ranges of each book. I have several specialty coding certifications (CDEO, CPMA, CPCO, CRC, CPC-I, CPC, CCS) and have 15 years of Coding/Auditing/Physician Education experience.
My education includes a Masters Degree in Public Administration with concentration in Healthcare Management, Bachelor Degree in Technical Management (Health Service Management), and A.S. Degree in Medical Billing and Coding. I volunteered as an Education Officer with my local AAPC Chapter for 3 years where I had the opportunity to mentor new coders, scheduled guest speakers, and helped new coders with real world job readiness.
In the classroom setting I engage my students to interact and learn with Coding Jeopardy and Coding Trivia games. When you have fun learning it stays with you! I encourage my students to do their best and give them opportunities on different ways of learning to help them with any test anxiety. I encourage them to get a study buddy and work together - use their different strengths to gain knowledge and build each other up and gain confidence.
