My name is Randy and my background and experience have prepared me to be an outstanding tutor. My background includes a B.S./Mathematics from the University of Puget Sound and a Master's in Mathematics from Central Washington University. I have spent the past 25 years teaching Mathematics at the Community College level. Teaching modalities include face-to-face, laboratory, and online. I have extensive experience teaching Trigonometry, Precalculus, Statistics, and Calculus. During this time, I developed and implemented a tutoring center at the Community College level.
The student population I have worked with was very diverse. This includes: high school graduates, worker-retaining, dual enrollment(high school students taking college courses for credit), older students, remedial, socio-economic diversification, and culturally diverse.
My approach to tutoring is similar to my approach to teaching but more coaching takes place due to the one-on-one nature of tutoring. The goal is to get you successful at some level. I start by finding out what your understanding of the particular subject matter is. From here, we proceed to how it is being taught to so I can, hopefully, complement the approach. In other words, I will meet you where you are. We need success at some level and then build upon this from that point. I do lots of examples and have you work through problems until you build the confidence and demonstrate that you can tackle the material on your own. I look forward to working with you.
