Hi, my name's Derek! I'm an Applied Mathematics Freshman at Brown University!
My primary educational background is in the Common Core curriculum tackled at the High School level. I specifically specialize in Math up to Calculus II. I also happen to be certified in Java and have a relatively extensive Computer Science background.
I am the founder of a nonprofit organization named "Elevate Your Aptitude", which specializes in helping High School kids achieve college readiness. Through this program, I have tutored a wide array of High School students from Sophomores up to Seniors--each with varying degree of skill in the tested subject. I gave lectures to large groups while also having individual discussions with each member. My primary method is to try and engage the students by getting them to think for themselves, only providing help when needed. This form of active tutoring, to me, is most beneficial to increasing student performance.
I led this program primarily from my Junior of High School summer up to my Senior year Summer before college.
One huge part of this program was the SAT/PSAT as schools see those tests as huge markers of college readiness, and one of my primary specializations is in tutoring those tests specifically. I have put in hundreds of hours learning about, tutoring, and studying for those tests, so it is something I am very well-read on.
I also achieved a 1520 out of 1600 on the actual SAT with a 750 Reading & Writing score and a 770 on the Math. And, as for other credentials, I have experience tutoring from my nonprofit and high school's National Honors Society branch.
Anyway, with all that said, hope I can be of some help!
