I’m new to Wyzant, but not new to tutoring. I’ve worked one-on-one with students in math, science, and test prep for about 10 years. I’m a National Merit Scholar with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Mathematics, with a strong academic background in calculus, statistics, probability, chemistry, and quantitative problem-solving.
I tutor Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, SAT, ACT, and PSAT. I also earned a 5 on AP Chemistry.
My strength as a tutor is figuring out why a student is getting stuck. Sometimes there’s an earlier skill gap underneath the current topic. Sometimes the student knows the material but struggles to recognize which approach to use. And sometimes it simply wasn’t explained in a way that clicked.
I break difficult problems into manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind them, and then make sure the student can solve similar problems independently. I don’t want a student leaving a lesson thinking, “That made sense when my tutor did it.” I want them thinking, “I know how to do this now.”
For SAT and ACT students, I combine content review with strategy. We identify the question types costing the most points, strengthen those skills, and work on pacing, efficient problem-solving, elimination strategies, and shortcuts. For the digital SAT, I also teach effective Desmos strategies when they offer a faster route to the answer.
For school coursework, I can help with assignments and upcoming tests while also addressing earlier gaps that may be making new material harder. Students can send me topics or assignments ahead of time so I can prepare a focused lesson.
My style is patient, encouraging, and personalized. Whether the goal is catching up, staying ahead, raising a test score, or preparing for college-level math and science, my goal is to make the material clearer, build confidence, and help the student become increasingly independent.
