Bio

As a former Los Angeles-based session musician, I have recorded/performed with Dweezil Zappa, Lisa Loeb, Cosmosquad, Hardline as well with members of Journey, INXS, Earth Wind and Fire, Tears For Fears, Savage Garden, Poison, Porcupine Tree, New Kids On The Block, Alan Parsons Project, UFO, Enuff z'Nuff, Nelson, Special EFX and many others.  I have recorded several dozen albums and have toured with various groups throughout the world.

As a songwriter, I have recorded three solo albums...

As a songwriter, I have recorded three solo albums under the Sunset Records label, as well as writing, arranging and producing music for television and film through various global music publishing companies.  I am a three-time ASCAP Awards Plus winner, and my original material has been licensed in over 50 countries.  These songs have also been featured on American programs such as Saturday Night Live, Biography, NBC Sports, CNN specials and more.    

As an educator, I was an instructor at the world-renowned Musicians Institute in Los Angeles for 15 years. I also taught at Shephard University in Los Angeles and Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. I’m a published author with Hal Leonard Publishing, and I have conducted educational clinics and workshops all over the world.  I was the owner and music director of my own private music lesson school (Absolute Music Studios) in Jupiter, Florida for 13 years, and I have taught private lessons for over 30 years.  Many of my former students have gone on to great careers in music, including gigs with Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Sara Bareilles, Fall Out Boy, 30 Seconds To Mars, Liz Phair, A Perfect Circle, Lifehouse and many others. I also created the online practicing website Practice Warriors to help people learn how to practice music effectively and efficiently...and have FUN doing it!

I have composed instrumental and vocal music for my own solo albums, for many instrumental artists and for television and film. My original compositions have been licensed in over 50 countries. These songs have also been featured on American programs such as Saturday Night Live, Biography, NBC Sports, CNN specials and more. I am currently composing music for programs on the Discovery Network.

I have studied ear training at Oswego State University and at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. I went on to teach the Ear Training curriculum at the Musicians Institute, as well as give practical lessons at Shepherd University and Palm Beach Atlantic University, as well as in my private lessons. I teach people how to use ear training to learn songs, melodies and solos, as well as to use this skill in their own creative endeavors.

Many students want to have a general overview of how music works. Having been a songwriter, instrumentalist, singer, improvisor, educator and producer, I have a wide variety of experience to share with these students. I have taught everything from private lessons, ear training, music theory, songwriting, improvisation and recording to everyone from kids to university students.

As a bass teacher at the Musicians Institute, I went back and actually enrolled and completed the Guitar Institute of Technology program. With my extensive knowledge of bass, songwriting and improvisation, I feel I have a unique perspective in playing and teaching guitar. From this perspective, I can help guitarists find their own unique voice on the instrument. I've been teaching guitar now for over 30 years, and love showing people of all skill levels how to make the most of this great instrument.

I learned music production and engineering at Oswego State University in NY as well as at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. I taught music production and recording at both Musicians Institute and Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida. I have engineered, recorded and produced many rock/pop albums for various artists, including my own 3 solo albums on Sunset Records. I am currently producing, engineering and composing music for Warner Bros./Discovery.

I have taught music theory and ear training at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California as well as Palm Beach Atlantic University in Palm Beach, Florida. More importantly, I have taught people of all ages how music theory can work for them to achieve their specific goals. Music theory is not only the key to learning music but also to create music, improvise and work with others in a fun, musical context.

Piano

I mainly teach piano to students who want to get beyond the sheet music. I have taught piano this way for over 30 years. For people who want to learn chords, theory, scales, songwriting, composition, singing and playing, piano accompaniment and improvisation, I can help you achieve your goals. I have studied piano for 40 years and have taken lessons with Russ Ferrante from the legendary jazz band Yellowjackets.

Knowledgeable and encouraging, engaged teacher

Christopher was wonderful. In just a 30-minute lesson, he was able to quickly assess what I already know about music theory and helped me realize that my foundation is actually much stronger than I thought. He gave me confidence that I already have the tools to work through more advanced theory concepts. One of the most valuable things he shared was encouraging me to replace the phrase “I can’t do that” with “I’m not familiar with how to do that yet.” That mindset shift alone made the lesson worthwhile, and I left feeling motivated and empowered.
