Working hard without seeing the grades or test scores you want? I help students uncover obstacles, strengthen skills, and develop independent reasoning and critical thinking.
I’m James, your “Personal Professor," specializing in SAT/ACT prep and academic coaching. Over 10 years, I have worked with 1,000+ students individually, in classrooms, and online. I earned a B.S. with honors and a double major in Computer Science and Accounting, plus an MBA, from Indiana University. I scored 36 on the ACT and 1580 on the SAT and have earned 31 five-star reviews on other tutoring platforms. I taught math and computers for two years at Harvest Academy in Illinois.
My students have achieved average gains of 6 ACT points, 250 SAT points, and 0.75 GPA points per semester. One raised his ACT score from 20 to 32. Individual results vary with starting skills, preparation time, and practice.
I assess each student’s goals and skills, identify obstacles in knowledge, question interpretation, pacing, study habits, or confidence, and build an individual plan. Lessons combine clear explanations, targeted practice, and practical strategies. Students learn to explain their reasoning and apply it independently.
My experience spans mathematics through calculus, statistics, economics, economic statistics, English, reading, writing, English literature, comparative literature, chemistry, physics, astronomy, and Spanish. I also support AP calculus, U.S. history, world history, English literature, physics, and Spanish. I have worked with elementary through college learners, including students with special learning needs.
My style is patient, encouraging, and direct. Students can ask questions without embarrassment while being challenged to think carefully. Parents receive clear updates on priorities, progress, and areas needing work.
