Hello student and/or parent,
My education and career/work experience is varied, affording me knowledge in various subject areas. I am a nationally certified pathologist's assistant with experience in forensic medicine, and have a master's degree in accounting with an emphasis on taxes. My formal full-time career recently ended in retirement but I have a new mission-- to tutor/teach!!
I regard tutoring as much a coaching job as it is a teaching job. I must INSPIRE, TEACH, EVALUATE, and OBTAIN HONEST FEEDBACK. The students must be able to RELAX, FOCUS, LISTEN, and LEARN. Learning should be an adventure, interesting, and fun! no matter what age or level!!! Of course there are serious goals to attain --- comprehension, remembering facts and figures, solving problems, projects, tests, and good grades (among others)!!! A measure of success is when the student is proud of what he/she has accomplished!
I would like to be your tutor and help you attain your goals.

Ms Arlene was perfect for me! She is VERY patient and soft spoken- unlike me who is stressing out about algebra (joking), but I am very thankful for her help AND I made a 100% on my homework with her teaching me!! I WILL be requesting Ms Arlene again!!!
Ms. Arlene is great to work with. My daughter received 2 A's on her tests. Ms. Arlene made a study board on her own time for my daughter to use. She has given my daughter confidence to make the A's.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
One of my strengths is the ability to explain a concept. I enjoy seeing results--the "light bulb" come on when someone understands a new concept (to use a trite expression)!
I am qualified to tutor in this subject based on my educational background (masters degree in accounting and bachelors degree in biology with all college level math courses covering algebra through trig and geometry and calculus, statistics, and business math). Math in its varied areas (algebra, statistics, etc.) has played a large part in both my science/pathology career and accounting/tax experience, in both conceptual and practical forms.
Throughout my career I have had opportunities to both demonstrate and teach. I know how to explain concepts, teach practical problems, and guide a person to reaching their goal. Tutoring/teaching is a two way communication and I have the subject knowledge and the patience and the communication skills to do the job!
My educational background includes lots of college level math (algebra, trig, calculus, business math, and stats). Throughout my career I have had opportunities to demonstrate and teach.
In the past I taught the “math superstars” program to elementary students. I have lots of patience and understanding when it comes to communicating new or difficult subject matter. I believe children/adolescents as well as adults are more receptive to learning when they are excited about the subject. My job is to make math interesting and exciting!
My educational background includes a bachelors degree in science with a college level math minor. I also have a masters degree in accounting. Throughout my career I have had opportunities to demonstrate and teach. I have lots of patience and understanding when it comes to teaching a new or difficult subject matter, regardless of whether I'm working with a child or an adult.
