Hello I am Sarah! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business. After graduating college, I started tutoring my nieces/nephews and realized how much I enjoyed helping them. I decided to go back to school and got a Master's in Education. Shortly thereafter, I started teaching HS Algebra and Geometry. I have dedicated 13+ years to tutoring/teaching math from 4th grade through HS Geometry. I enjoy working with students of all levels and would love to help build that confidence and ultimately bridge any learning gaps. Currently, I teach 6th math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1, both standard and Honors courses. I hold tutoring sessions for my current students weekly for 45 min so that they can get help with their HW or practice problems in preparation of a quiz/test. I also provide tutoring to students at my school in 4th and 5th grade during the summer, and after school.
I am certified in Math 4-9, specializing in 6th grade Math, Pre-Alg, and Alg 1. All of my tutoring sessions are student centered. I begin the session with what the student is working on, what they already know, and what they can improve upon. I love using graphic organizers and providing students with the background that they need to understand a topic. I make sure to save plenty of time to practice the skills needed to solve whatever topic or problems that they are working on. I find that the "I do, We do, You do" teaching strategy is very effective and provides a way for students to build their skills and confidence. In your session, please bring any topics/materials that you would like to cover. (calculator if applicable) I am patient and can provide many different ways to look at a problem to ensure understanding.
